Brighton power out
Brighton residents were without power for nearly an hour last evening when a power line to the area shortcircuited. Power was cut to Brighton and parts of Aranui and Burwood from 6.55 p.m. to 7.43 p.m. The Municipal Electricity Department was inundated with calls from residents wanting to know when power would be restored. An M.E.D. spokesman said the fault was caused when power tracked across the insulators forcing the circuit-breakers to cut power to the area. The other available line to the Brighton area was out for maintenance. The fault was triggered by light rain falling on salt and dust particles on the line.
