Drott Moss in form
Special correspondent Auckland Drott Moss, a candidate for the Hill and Stewart Trot on the first night of the Auckland Cup Meeting tonight, could not have been more impressive winning the heat for C2 and faster trotters at the Pukekohe workouts on Sunday. Away well from 50m, Drott Moss shot clear of the pacemaker, Regal Red, with 400 m to go and held on well to beat Lumber’s Pride and Evander Rose.
Although not asked for his best by Glen Wolfenden, Drott Moss ran his last 800 m in 59.5 and the 400 m smartly in 29.
Kylie’s Hero looked in fine order when leading for the last 2000 m of the main pacers’ handicap. Driven by Maurice McKendry, Kylie’s Hero began well from 60m and quickly made up the leeway. He was pressed hard by Reba Lord from the 800 m, but drew clear over the final stages to win by a length and a half. McKendry had a good' hold on Kylie’s Hero at the finish. They came from the 800 m in a swift 57, the last 400 m in 28.1. Reba Lord has had only one start for a win from Brian O’Meara’s stable this season and could be very hard to beat in the Committee Mobile Pace this evening.
