Reaction sought to resource use

The Ministry for the Environment will hold a public meeting in Christchurch on February 2 to discuss a proposal paper on changes to New Zealand’s resource management laws. The paper was released last week. Copies are available at the Ministry’s

Manchester Street office. The meeting will be held in the Stringleman Room of the Canterbury Public Library, at 7.30 p.m. The review of the management laws includes those governing land, water and air resources. The Town and Country

Planning Act, water and soil laws, minerals legislation and geothermal and coastal laws have all come in for scrutiny in the reform process. Submissions on the proposal paper must be made by February 22. A free telephone line can also be used to make

submissions and it will operate from January 29 until January 31. Meetings will be held in 19 other cities and towns in New Zealand so the public can speak with senior members of the reform team which produced the proposal document.
