Crime link outrage
It was outrageous that the Labour Government should continue to finance criminal . activities of gangs, while at thb same time the police were stretched for money and manpower, said ,Mr John Banks, the Opposition spokesman on the police last weeks. !
He was commenting on police revelations in Auckland that ; y . ..
armed robbery suspects had been traced back to a
gang work skills centre in south Auckland. The public would be disturbed to learn that taxpayer money used to finance gang work trusts was being siphoned off to sponsor violent offending, he said. Many of the same individuals involved in
those so-called work trusts were vicious criminals with long histories of
aggravated robberies and standover tactics, he said.
