Presenters defended
The retirement of sports presenter Tony Ciprian last month has forced TVNZ to use sports journalists with little presenting experience on the Network News. Network News editor, Mr Paul Cutler, confirmed this when responding to criticism of sportscasters Ric Salizzo and Richard Becht for their presentation of week-end sports news. Newspaper criticism of the pair was unfair and premature, he said. The two new presenters had not yet had a chance to become established in the new role. Mr Salizzo and Mr Becht were experienced sports reporters and would overcome their on-air nervousness. — PA.
