Speedy Cheval makes Mile field
New Zealand will have two representatives in the sAust2so,ooo Miracle Mile at Sydney’s Harold Park on Friday night. The West Meltontrained pacer, Speedy Cheval, was added to the six-horse field yesterday, after Gold Share, from Victoria, went sore and had to be withdrawn. Speedy Cheval, third in both the New Zealand Cup and the New Zealand Free-For-All at Addington in the last fortnight, was a surprise omission from the original field. The only New Zealand horse on the list was the New Zealand Cup winner, Luxury Liner. Speedy Cheval was sold to an Australian owner a few months ago, and he actually left for Sydney last Thursday. He was accompanied by his trainer-driver, Peter Ryder, who will drive the gelding on Friday. While Speedy Cheval has had luck on his side in getting a start in the rich event, he has not fared too well in the draw. He will start from the outside of the mobile gate.
