Softball squad named

The new Canterbury women’s softball coach, Robyn Storer, has named a strong and experienced team to compete in the Winfield national inter-provincial tournament in Rotorua from January 3 to 9.

As expected, the side is dominated by Burnside and Albion players.

Apart from competing for national honours there is much at stake for all members of the team. Two New Zealand sides will be named after a day of trials to compete in the Winfield Classic in Christchurch early in February.

The classic contains virtually all the leading nations in the world and is the start of New Zealand’s build up to the 1990 World Series, to be held in July in the United States.

The side is: Chris John, Penny Salton, Nancy Bulmer, Natalie Hazelwood, Mandy Karatau, Anita Perreau, Wendy Hughes, Helen Townsend, Raelene Ford, Leigh Ronald, Donna Meuli, Jane Earnshaw, Donna Ward, Lynda O’Cain, Trina Whittaker. Training at Burnside High School, 5.30 p.m., Sunday, November 27.
