Dew dropped
The West Coast Rugby Union has appointed a former long-serving representative prop, Mr Ross Dixon, as its new selector coach for the 1989 season. in doing so, at its meeting on Monday night, it dropped the other nominee for the position, Mr Rob Dew, who has held the position for the past three seasons. Mr Dixon’s assistant will be the former Coast representative, New Zealand Colts and Junior first five-eighths, Mr Gavin Cook.
Mr Dixon said yesterday that his immediate plan was a programme of pre-season physical training for all senior clubs, which would be monitored. “The game is a lot faster at representative level and we have to catch up,” he said. Mr Dew said that he was “really disappointed” at losing the post. “I would have liked to have had the opportunity to have brought the team back.” West Coast was last equal in the third division competition this year.
