Snabben expected to resume on winning note today

Special correspondent Hastings The Cambridge six-year-old, Snabben, could resume on a winning note in the White Horse Whisky Handicap on the second day of the Napier Park Racing Club’s meeting at Hastings today. Snabben has not raced since winning at Ellerslie in early May but he has generally come to hand quickly and tomorrow’s race should be no exception. The race has attracted some useful performers including the likes of Shipmate, Margarella and Lutece. Shipmate wasted little time in showing he was ready for another successful season by beating all but Rojiman on the final day of the recent Wellington meet-

ing. He has been one of the most consistent performers about and three of his five wins came in his last seven starts last season. Margarella is another whose form has been hard to fault and Lutece, which resumed at the recent Trentham meeting, has worked well in the meantime. Bronze Valley appeals as a strong chance to improve on his recent good form in the first leg of the T.A.B. double, in the Lion Brown Handicap. After beating the Melbourne Cup winner, Empire Rose, at Hawera, Bronze Valley went on to press the New Zealand Cup favourite, Gallipoli, close at Trentham and wasn’t disgraced in finishing seventh in the Rotorua Cup.
