Police runners
Sir,—After reading the report by Mike Jaspers (October 8), I feel compelled to write and set a few facts straight. For some reason it appears to be a pre-
occupation of some reporters to write about the “thugs” in society, making them out as something special for staying inside the rules of the law for short periods of time, which the rest of us do all our lives. Mr Jaspers states that, while out for a run, these “Rambos” ran past a surprised Team Policing Unit, leaving the police in their wake. As a member of the Christchurch Team Policing Unit I am left wondering about this incident. The T.P.U. does not run as a team through Hagley Park during the day time. At the times when T.P.U. members do run through the park, not all wear blue T-shirts. Police members are used to some exaggeration by reporters when reporting on police matters, but this particular account is over the odds. — Yours, etc., M. D. HURST, Constable, Christchurch Team Policing Unit. October 8, 1988.
