Ebeli Show misses out
NZPA-AAP Melbourne Ebeli Show missed a start in Saturday’s sAustl million Caulfield Cup (2400 m when final declarations for the race were taken yesterday morning. His Pakenham trainer, John Leek, was hoping the four-year-old, which has graduated from restricted class to top class company in one campaign, would make the field of 18 and two emergencies, but he finished up twenty-first in order of entry. Others which were paid up but will miss runs are Secret Seal, which finished sixth in the Cup last year, and New Zealander Classic Bay, which arrived in Melbourne on Monday night. As much as 500-1 was offered about Ebeli Show when first betting charts for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups were released, but after finishing third to Vo Rogue in the Turnbull Stakes at Flemington earlier this month he was quoted at 16-1. Ebeli Show had 48kg in the Caulfield Cup and was to be ridden by Darren Gauci. Gauci will now ride the George Hanlon-trained Congressman, which won the Herbert Power Handicap on Saturday.
