Australia rattles Pakistan
NZPA-Reuter Lahore The third cricket test between Pakistan and Australia appeared set for an exciting finale after the touring team dominated much of the fourth day yesterday. It hustled out Pakistan for 233 and then reached 132 for three in its second innings to go into the final day with a handsome lead of 239. A target of 300 on a wearing pitch could be a severe test for Pakistan which is
seeking to protect its 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Resuming yesterday at 165 for three, Pakistan was bowled out an hour after lunch for only 68 more runs. It never recovered from early telling blows by Bruce Reid and Tony Dodemaide who between them snapped up three wickets in the space of nine deliveries. Javed Miandad (27) edged a legside catch to wicketkeeper lan Healy off Reid, Salim Malik, caught and bowled by Dodemaide, went for 26 and then Salim Yousuf (one) gave Healy his third catch of the innings and Reid his third wicket. Ejaz Ahmad (23) and Abdul Qadir (18) stopped the
I slide partially by adding 33 for the seventh wicket, but i Pakistan crumbled quickly ; when Australia took the second new ball. Reid finished with three i for 53, but he may not be ; able to bowl again after > spraining his back. 1 Australia launched its > second innings with another good stand of 71 between 1 Geoff Marsh and David Boon (28). Marsh survived two , chances to end the day 1 unbeaten on 75. t But Dean Jones continued f his wretched form, bagging a 1 “pair” when Jaffer nailed 1 him lbw first ball. Allan Border survived the hat-trick but eventually fell to » the off-spin of Tauseef
Ahmad for 20.
