Limbering-up before fight
PA Auckland Samoan men jogged and did arm exercises as they took up weapons for a fight with Tongans in the Otara shopping mall, an Auckland jury heard yesterday. Sani Vaieni told the High Court Otara ma-chete-murder trial that he watched friends limber up carrying machetes and knives ready for the April 30 clash.
Then, afterwards, he watched lupeli Pauga kiss the machete he allegedly used to strike Tongan David Fuko and throw it into bushes by an Otara house. Pauga is one of 11 men charged with the murder of Mr Fuko and wounding of Amoni Matu with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Mr Vaieni said Pauga told the group to move in pairs to the fight.
