Entertainer cleared by jury
PA Auckland The entertainer, Marcus Craig, was cleared by a jury in the High Court in Auckland on three charges alleging sexual offences against a boy, aged 14 Craig was accused of assault with intent to commit sexual violation, unlawful sexual connection and indecent assault on the boy. The offences were alleged to have occurred at Craig’s home in Beachhaven on May 18 Defence counsel, Mr George Howley, applied for a continuation of an order banning publication of Craig’s identity. Mr Justice Wylie said he did not feel disposed to continue the suppression order. Where there had been a degree of publicity, he said, it was desirable any doubts should be cleared up.
