Closing Carrington being considered
PA Auckland The Auckland Hospital Board says it is considering closing Carrington Hospital as a cost-cutting measure. The board has a budget shortfall of $25 million for the financial year ending March 31, 1989, and staff in all departments have been asked to investigate ways of paring expenditure. Several options, including the one to close Carr-
ington, had been discussed at officer level, the board heard yesterday. Members voted to authorise further examination of those options. If Carrington were closed, patients would be transferred to “other sites,” including Kingseat Hospital. No figure was given for the potential savings if such a proposal were adopted.
