Piggybank hurled
One of 20 customers held at gunpoint by three gunmen in a Manukau bank yesterday hurled a coinfilled piggybank at one of the robbers, according to the police. The plastic object hit a balaclava-clad man who was standing guard at the door of the A.S.B. branch as his accomplices cleared tellers’ drawers. The middleaged man who threw the piggybank was lashed across a forearm with a rifle barrel then forced to lie face downward on the floor with other customers. The police say the three robbers left about 1 p.m. in a Valiant Charger which was later recovered in Manurewa. Detective Inspector Tony Shalfoon said about $2OO of the several thousand dollars stolen were found in bush near a new housing subdivision. —PA.
