No policing-violence link
PA Auckland The Commissioner of Police, Mr Malcolm Churches, says recent violence in Wairoa is not related to the policing of the town. Two men died after a gang shoot-out in Wairoa at the week-
end, but Mr Churches said yesterday that although most violent offenders were usually caught it was little deterrent. “It is very concerning that we have to deal with such levels of violence in a small town,” he said.
