West Coast floods
Sir, —I, too, would like to help Greymouth. Building stopbanks, however, is only a stopgap measure. How high does one have to build a stopbank if extensive logging continues in the Grey catchment area? I would like to make a donation towards planting a tree near the source of the Grey River on the west side of the Lewis Pass.— Yours, etc., JOE ARTS. September 22, 1988. Sir,—l wish to express my appreciation to the ladies of all the churches and groups, and the young ladies from the high school, who assisted and supported the Civil Defence catering at the Salvation Army Hall, Greymouth, during the recent flood emergency. We could not have done the job without them. They were fabulous. —Yours, etc., LILLIAN ADAMS. September 21, 1988.
