Canty will lodge challenge
Canterbury will lodge a challenge for the Winfield Shield against Otago next season, according to the Canterbury Football Association. Otago won New Zealand soccer’s newest trophy when it downed the holder, Auckland, 3-1, on Wednesday evening. Auckland, which had a penalty saved by the Otago goal keeper, David White, had successfully defended the trophy four times against Northland, Manawatu, Franklin and Waikato. It is likely that Otago will play minor South Island associations like Nelson, Southland and Mid-Canterbury before Canterbury gets a challenge.
