Luxury in hotel suite
By
LES BLOXHAM,
travel editor Do you want a taste of top-shelf luxury in Christchurch’s newest hotel? Then consider splashing out for a night in the Parkroyal’s presidential suite. From next month it could be yours for a mere $l2OO a day — plus GST. That price, of course, will buy a good deal more than a king-sized bed and good-night candy. It will include a free bottle of champagne, personalised stationery, a bowl or two of fruit, assorted toiletries, and a suit pack and bathrobe to take home without feeling guilty. The suite’s opulent facilities are clearly meant to be savoured by more than one guest. One alone can hardly make the most of two large bedrooms, a dining room for 10, a couple of spa baths, half a dozen telephones, and the suite’s own private video and stereo system. A dinner party might be the answer with meals (at extra cost) served on the suite’s fine Villeroy and Boch china and wine poured in sparkling Kosta
Boda crystal. A pianist will be provided (at extra cost) to play tunes of your choice on the suite’s own piano. If one’s desire is to keep the company discreet, the Parkroyal will provide private access and check-in facilities away from the madding, perhaps embarrassing, crowd in the main lobby. The double-storey suite is on the top of the hotel, overlooking Victoria Street. It has already been booked for a number of nights, but vacancies are still available for those with $1320 a night to spare. The Parkroyal will have more modestly priced rooms on offer. The “rack” (non discounted) rate for a standard twin or double room , will be $244 (including GST). A standard suite will cost $330 and an executive suite, $495. However, the hotel offers a 40 per cent discounted corporate rate until April 30 and this-will effectively lower the price of a standard room to $145 (including GST) a night.
