Ashburton sprint

The third round of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Jet Boat Association’s sprint series will be run on the Ashburton River tomorrow. More than 70 entries have been received for the event which will be raced just below the motorway bridge in Ashburton. The leader of the five round series, John Watson, has chosen this sprint as the one he will drop. This leaves the open class open to Rodney Pohio, Chris Gifkins and Bruce Street who have been chafing at the bit to take over the lead. Boats from throughout the South Island have been entered in the Quality Motors sprint and with the first place open to tomorrow’s winner, competition will be fierce. Racing starts at 8.30 a.m. with the open class boats hitting the water about 12 noon.
