Robinski nearing racing trim

Robinski, one of the best-performed of Riccarton gallopers last season, and seemingly sure to fill a similar role in the new, is set to resume in the Midspring Handicap at Riccarton next Friday.

Robinski will run In the 1800 m event instead of the open class 1400 m Hagley Handicap so that he will have plenty of time to find his feet in what will be his first race since May. Robinski was very fresh at the track yesterday running 1200 m under a stem hold from “Boxer” Williams on the grass in 1:23.5, the last 600 m in 40.06.

Robinski will have a reasonably busy time after next Friday as he is being fitted for a tilt at the Benson and Hedges Gold Cup, but he has taken little hard work and racing to hit his peak in the past. Overnight rain eased the inside grass which had been causing concern in recent times by its firm nature.

Times were more conservative yesterday though the plough produced some good sectionals, the best being by the maidens Wessex and Time Flies which ran in from the 600 m in 37.
