Cafe for Square attracts backers
Three developers are interested in the Cathedral Square glass-cafe project, says its designer, Mr Peter Beaven. After problems finding commercial backers, in spite of enthusiasm by Christchurch City councillors for the project, Mr Beaven and his partners, Messrs Mark and' Arch Campbell, have modified the design. It now. provides for a ground level seating 110 people, spilling out into the Square. "We have removed the most expensive part, - the basement,” Mr Beaven said. The council’s inner-;city working party favours an outdoor cafe in the Square. The council opened up the project last month by calling for development proposals for a restaurant-cafe.
