Sir,—An article on September 12 records that, of 106 overseas visitors interviewed by Christchurch Polytechnic students of tourism, 85 said that if there were a casino in Christchurch they would not have visited it. .The phrasing of the report presents a negative attitude. By my count, the record shows that 20 per cent would have liked to visit the casino, 1 a proportion which together with local patronage would be guaranteed to make the venture a major success. Imagine the uproar if the following (potentially factual) . headlines covering packed performances were to appear in “The Press”: "Less than 10 per cent of the district’s population watch All Blacks in action at Lancaster Park,” or “99 per cent of citizens ignore rock concert at Town Hall.” Christchurch is slowly and inexorably being brought to a standstill, mostly by those who claim to have its best interests at heart.—Yours, etc., W. A. SUTTON. -September 12, 1988.
