PA Wellington One petition was presented when Parliament resumed at 2 p.m. yesterday. Mr G. E. Lee (Nat.’, Coromandel) presented the petition of John Edward Albert Allen and 2239. others asking that the House recommend to the Government that.any proposal to introduce a Bill of Rights in New Zealand should be subject to a referendum requiring a two-thirds majority of electors' before proceeding and that equal publicly funded opportunities be given for proponents and opponents of the proposal to present- their respective cases. Ministers answered 22 questions. .
The Minister of Civil Defence, Dr Bassett, made a statement informing members that a Civil Defence emergency had been declared in the Greymouth area. The Minister of Justice, Mr Palmer, introduced the Companies (Investigation and Management) Bill. The bill’s introduction was passed without division and it was set down for consideration by the Justice and Law Reform Select Committee. Members then moved on to continue debate on the committee stages of the Appropriation Bill (No. 2). The House adjourned for dinner at 5.30 p.m. The debate continued when the House resumed at 7.30 p.m. Debate was interrupted when the House rose at 10.30 p.m.' 'V- ■' . ■
