Lenin qualifies
Lenin, a three-year-old gelded brother to the tight-class pacer, Laser Lad, qualified as a trotter in 3:21.6 (2400 m at the Rangiora trials on Monday.
Trained at Broadfield by Robert Dunn, Lenin, despite being parked, came clear of Ima Lilly (7m Plat du Jour-Ima Rose) to win by two lengths. The leaders ran their last 800 m in 62, but slowed over their final 400 m in 32.7.
Pacers to qualify over 2400 m were: Manhattan Blues (5g El Patron— Belmer Rosa) in 3:14.5; Made My Day (3g Lord Brandon — Radiant Surprise) in 3:16.9 and Dark Melody (3f Nero’s B.B.—Reggae) in 3:17.7. Mustn’t Grumble (4g Noodlum—La Sorella) qualified over 2600 m mobile, pacing the distance in 3:31.1.
