Kiwis told to wear uniforms at night
PA Seoul New Zealand’s Olympic team has been warned to wear uniforms at night in Seoul’s tourist district and get back early amid increased concern about security threats to the Games. A Seoul prostitute was murdered by an American serviceman a few nights ago and there had been a suggestion radicals might seek retribution, said the team manager, Bruce Ullrich. He had therefore issued a general warning to the New Zealand team to not stay out late in the tourist and red light district of Itaewon and to wear uniforms there so as not to be confused with Americans./'’ His comments followed South Korean police saying on Monday that an unknown group :< ■ had threatened to stage a ter-
rorist attack at the Olympics if North Korea was not allowed to be a joint host. The police disclosed that the unnamed radical group had in a letter threatened a Munich-style massacre at the ‘ Seoul Olympics. They also. said an Iranian who had tried to break into the athletes’ village had been deported. Mr Ullrich, who was at the 1972 Munich Games when Palestinian terrorists carried out a ; raid which left 17 dead, said he was “naturally very concerned” at the latest reports. “I think I would be irresponsible. if.. I ' didn’t take notice of what is being said, and will 'pass this, over, to our section managers to ensure 1 they do exercise a considerable amount of precaution in this area,” he said.
