Harrow winner of triathlon
Ben Harrow won this year’s ironkids triathlon in New Brighton last Sunday morning. He is no stranger to the sport, having won the junior boys’ section last year and also the Beckenham School ironkid competition a few months ago. The eventual third placegetter, Craig Tregurtha, was poised to win the New Brighton event, but Harrow and Michael Worters both overtook him in the run. Rachel Rowberry won the senior girls’ race from Jackie Prince and Anna Rowberry. The senior course consisted of a 50m swim at the Queen Elizabeth II pool, an 11km bike ride in Burwood and New Brighton and a 3.2 km beach run. The junior course was shorter, involving a 4km bike ride and a I.lkm run. Nigel Cox beat Thomas
Harrow in the junior race and the girls’ event went to Leigh Sneddon, who beat Juliet Penny by 15s. Thirty-seven competitors, aged from nine to 14 years, entered the triathlon which was organised as a scaleddown version of an open-age event. Emphasis was on fun and particiation.
