Piernay masterclass

Rudolf Piernay, the professor of singing at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama, will take masterclasses in Christchurch this week. Piernay has been twice to New Zealand to tutor vocal students at the Cambridge Summer School of Music and gave lecture-recitals in Wellington earlier this year. He began his musical studies at the Berlin Konservatorium and Staatliche Hochschule fur Musik. A scholarship took him to Britain first to the Royal Academy of Music and then to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He studied singing, piano and conducting, winning several awards while still at college. For two years Piernay won the competition, “Podium Junger Solisten,” and appeared in 100 concerts in Germany. He has also given recitals and sung in oratorio in Italy, France, Belgium and Holland. In Britain he has worked with the Chelsea Opera Group, the New Opera Company and the Park Lane Group, as well as broadcasting for the 8.8. C. Piernay’s Christchurch masterclasses will be at the School of Music on Friday. The participants are Shelley Spang, David Morris, Sarah Harris and Elizabeth Emeleus-McFarlane. The accompanist is Rosemary' Miller-Stott.
