St Andrew’s concert

On Sunday afternoon staff and pupils of St Andrew’s College will present a concert at Knox Presbyterian Church, Bealey Avenue, at 2 p.m. The St Andrew’s Chorale, the school’s Treble Choir, and the college’s Brass Ensemble will appear with soloists drawn from these groups. Michael Lawrence, the school’s head of music, will present two twentieth century works by William Mathias and Kenneth Leighton, while the chaplain, the Rev. Paul Johnstone, will give a presentation to show the tone colours of the organ using short pieces from English and French composers of the eighteenth and twentieth centuries. The organ at Knox Church was completely rebuilt a year ago. The choral work will be under the direction of Jocelyn Gould, a music teacher at St Andrew’s, while the Brass Ensemble is trained by Mark Hodgkinson. Admission to the concert, which is open to the public, is free.
