Breakaway church

Sir,—A news item on September 8 tells about the breakaway church naming itself “The Continuing Church." The members object to the Synod’s decision to ordain women. The biting question is: Will this new/old church be in schism and its members excommunicated, like the naughty Lefebvrists? They will meet in public-houses, halls and barns, again like the above. The buildings they helped build and the clergy they kept have to move with the times. The churches are emptying and the women have been sold a dead horse, to mix my metaphors. How long before modern Catholics have women priests, too? — Yours, etc.,

V. H. ANDERSON. September 9, 1988.
