N.Z. wins boat race
PA Sydney The New Zealand Universities women’s eight easily won the world boat race in Brisbane yesterday. New Zealand led the women’s final all the way over the 4.5 km Brisbane River course to beat' the second-placed Queensland University by 21 seconds, with Australian Combined Universities third.
The winning crew was the first New Zealand women’s eight to compete overseas and the first crew to be coached by Stephanie Foster. The former champion rower singled out the cox, Leanne Hodson, for praise. “Leanne did fantastic cornering — she was brilliant and has learned a lot from all the training we’ve done,” Foster said.
