Spring celebrations begin
Spring celebrations in Christchurch have begun. Highlights for this year’s free programme will be spring classics featuring the Arioso string quartet on Sunday. The next' Sunday, September 18, there will be “Varied Voices,” with Foxy Dan and a "something for everyone” concert with Sublime Extravagance. On Sunday, September 25, an anniversary folk concert will be given to
celebrate the Botanic Gardens’ 125th anniversary celebrations. Each year, “Summer Times” co-ordinators in the Christchurch City Council’s parks and recreation department call on visiting and Christchurch entertainers to perform. The Sunday afternoon concerts will be on the daffodil lawns in the Botanic Gardens. During October and November lunchtime en-
tertainment will be given in Cathedral Square, and Saturday evening concerts at the Botanic Gardens band rotunda. Celebrations for Japan Week (beginning on November 3), Keep New Zealand Beautiful Week (November 1 to 8), and the Heart of the City Market in Cathedral Square each Friday will also be held. “Summer Times,' 198889” will be launched on December 7.
