Mobile phone in use

’ Canterbury’s first mobile telephone service will become fully functional today. The service enables the use of a cellular telephone from a moving or stationary vehicle anywhere in Christchurch. Telecom does not expect any “dead spots” in the city where reception might be limited. The service is believed to be the first in the South Island. A radio team will make calls from various Canterbury venues and commuter buses on the mobile telephone.
