Men attack guard in ninja-style
PA Wanganui A Wanganui security guard was beaten by men dressed in Ninja-type clothing and carrying martial arts weapons after he disturbed burglars in central Wanganui early on Saturday. Alerted at 3 a.m. by a silent alarm at Eades Honda at the corner of Ridgway Street and Hill Street the security guard arrived at the premises before the police had been called. He was confronted by two men dressed in dark clothing, each carrying a set of num-chukkas, two narrow cylindrical pieces
of wood linked together by a chain. When the burglars, saw the security guard, they adopted martial arts stances. One struck the guard across the head and body with a num-chukka. A key-holder to the property, who arrived at the building soon after the guard, was able to call the police. “The security guard was very lucky,” said Senior-Sergeant Nigel Mcßae of Wanganui, yesterday. “His injuries were not too severe — he needed stitches to a cut on the head.”
By the time police arrived, the men had escaped through the building’s back door. Metal kung fu throwing stars were recovered near the burglars’ point of entry. “The disturbing feature about this whole business is that the offenders obviously went to the premises dressed in Ninja-type clothing, armed, and prepared to use their weaponry in a confrontation,” SeniorSergeant Mcßae said. “They were not just kids dressed up — they knew what they were doing.”
