Rakaia conservation
Sir,—l was concerned , when I learned that the conservation order for the Rakaia River had not been legalised. Nearly a year has passed since the Court of Appeal handed down its judgment in favour of protecting the Rakaia. And as yet it has not become law. I feel personally insulted that bur members of Parliament think that saving Canterbury’s last major, unspoilt river is such a trifling matter. After all the hard work and expense put in by all concerned groups (notably the anglers of Canterbury) it would be a great pity if this was lost because of the inefficiency of our democratic system which is supposed to represent and protect our interests. — Yours, etc., DAVID SCOBIE.
