Ferrymead Trust gives marketing grant
Political reporter
The Ferrymead Trust will get a $25,000 grant to prepare a marketing plan, the member of Parliament for Lyttelton, Dr Peter Simpson, said yesterday. The plan, to be put up for tender, will identify the historic park’s objectives, target markets, and come up with strategies to achieve these.
The grant was announced jointly with the Minister of Tourism, Mr Goff, and follows a management and marketing study on the park done in
1987 by Arthur Young of Christchurch. That study was also funded by a grant from the Tourist and Publicity Department.
Several recommendations from this earlier study have already been acted on with the formation of a new constitution and a new board of trustees which had concentrated on improving the park’s image. The 1987 report had also urged that a marketing plan be completed as soon as possible and improved annually.
“The Ferrymead Trust has made a great deal of progress in developing the park to its present stage, but it is now at the point where it must look at where it goes next,” Mr Goff said.
Dr Simpson said that the trust must adopt a business plan and use professionalism in its dealings with guests. “Ferrymead Historic Park is already one of the leading attractions for visitors in Christchurch. This grant will enable it to become an even more effective facility,” he said.
