Woolston to challenge

Woolston’s status as a challenger for Canterbury premier rugby league status will not be affected by its loss to Riccarton in a premier B semi-final last Saturday. Mr lan Jenkins, the Canterbury Rugby. League chairman, said yesterday that the Woolston and Riccarton clubs were aware of the situation before the start of their play-offs.

One week earlier Woolston had slipped

ahead to win the premiership (round-robin) when Riccarton unexpectedly lost its last game to Linwood. But Riccarton last Saturday reversed the outcome of their meeting in the premiership to advance direct to the premier B grand final. Woolston has to beat Hornby at Addington Park on Saturday to become the other grand finalist. Once that is completed

Woolston will contest a promotion - relegation round-robin with Sydenham, Linwood and Kaiapoi. The two top sides will be included in the eightteam premier grade in 1989.

Although Gore Cup (bottom four) results might cause some changes, the promotionrelegation fixtures have been scheduled for August 28, September 3, 11 and, if necessary, 17 or 18.
