Huge growth
The short history of “Microwave Specialists,” now Kitchen Appliance Specialists, is one of success and phenomenal growth. It began in July, 1983, with one store in High Street in the central city. The store’s managing director, Mr Jon Mells, attributes its success to the philosophy of looking after customers. “We offer value for money and to us it is most important to give the correct advice on selecting the right appliance for an individual customer,” he says. “This philosophy will continue in the new store.”
He opened a second
store on the corner of Bealey Avenue and Colombo Street in 1984. “Microwave Specialists” soon grew to be the biggest seller of microwave ovens in Christchurch, says Mr Mells. In part this was due to the increasing popularity of microwave ovens. This grew from 0 - 48 per cent of households owning one in just six years.
But the growth was also due to the unique service “Microwave Specialists” began for its customers — the cooking school offering free microwave cooking lessons for customers, Jon Mells says. All the tutors are highly skilled and fully trained.
