Sweden reaches final
NZPA-Reuter Bastad, Sweden The French threat to Sweden’s hopes of completing a remarkable grand slam of men’s tennis in 1988 disintegrated yesterday when Mats Wilander guided the Davis Cup holders into their sixth successive final. Wilander, champion of France and Australia, produced a near-flawless display of claycourt tennis to overwhelm Henri Leconte 6-1, 6-1, 7-5 in the first reverse singles to put the 1975, 1984, 1985 and IJB7 Davis Cup winners 3-1 in front and within reach of a fifth triumph.
