Shot fired in court
NZPA-PA Dublin The man serving a life sentence for the 1979 I.R.A. murder of Lord Mountbatten produced a gun and opened fire in a Dublin courtroom yesterday.
No-one was hurt when a single shot was fired in the Irish High Court by Thomas McMahon, aged 40, who was quickly disarmed and overcome by police and prison officers.
The shooting happened on the second day of an action by McMahon, who is seeking damages against the Irish State for injuries he allegedly suffered during an incident at the high security Portlaoise Prison in 1983.
