Spirited run from Cambric

By ALEX McMILLAN

Cambric, after racing three wide throughout, scored a stylish win in the Vistalite Aluminium Pace (2000 m stand) at the New Brighton Harness Racing Club’s meeting at Addington last evening. The winner of a heat of the Southland Oaks last season when prepared at Winton by Ron Hamilton, Cambric has raced honestly but without much luck since joining the Kerrytown stable of Richard Brosnan.

Cambric began safely but slowly last evening, receiving cover before racing outside the leader, Salazar, and Replacement, from the 800 m. Sent clear early in the run home by Brosnan, she was untroubled to win by two and a quarter lengths from Replacement, with Salazar fading to third, a neck away. The hot favourite, Fri-

day followed the winner from the 1100 m but showed little fight when angled wide at the straight entrance by Ricky May, finishing fifth.

Cambric, which was timed over her last 800 m in 59.27 s last evening is raced in partnership by Ron Hamilton, who was recently elected to the executive of the New Zealand Harness Racing Conference, and his wife, Maureen.

The eighth foal of the Hamilton’s fine broodmare, Vonnell, Cambric is thus a half-sister to the former Easter Cup winner, Trevira.
