Agreement on cycleways, helmets
Christchurch cyclists and the Canterbury United Council have come to agreement over disputed points in the council’s urban transport plan.
The Canterbury Cyclists’ Association was concerned the council’s operational plan had
stated that helmets would be made compulsory by legislation and that the plan did not depict cycleways in the city on a map. The United Council has agreed to word its plan to avoid giving the impression that helmets were the only method to minimise the consequences of cycle accidents.
