NEC updates laptops
Two new laptops have been announced by NEC: the Multispeed EL ($4795) and the HD ($7280). The latter has a 20mb hard disk and weighs 6.5 kg, compared with the two 3.5: floppy EL’s 5.2 kg. Both machines come with 640 K RAM, 512 K ROM, backlit LCD screens,
and are based on the NEC V-30, an 8086compatible processor that runs at 4.77 MHz or 9.54 MHz. The display is 25 lines of 80 characters. The machines include a Hayes-com-patible modem that transmits at up to 1200 bps.
