Bulldozer taken for joyride to river
A $lOO,OOO bulldozer was driven through fences, up a riverbed and pushed over a large beech tree during a joyride in the Lewis Pass area at the weekend. Constable Peter Gilfedder, of Hamner Springs, said the Komatsu bulldozer, belonging to McKay Earthmovers, Ltd, of Christchurch, was unlawfully taken from a paddock
about skm north of the Boyle River bridge. Constable Qilfedder believes the bulldozer was taken between Friday night and 11 a.m. on Saturday. “Somebody took it right across the paddock, broke down a fence, went across State highway seven, broke down another fence and went down into the Lewis River.”
“They drove north in the Lewis River for about 800 m then came out bn to the river flat where they did a bit of crazy rooting and digging around before going up on to a small terrace.” The police are interested in hearing from anyone who saw people around the bulldozer or using it during Friday night or Saturday morning.
