Call for bipartisan approach to super.
Political shadow-boxing over national superannuation must end now, the Council of Christian Social Services has said. “Unless a bipartisan political approach to superannuation is developed, New Zealand could face a crisis over superannuation funding and services to the elderly,” it said. The council, which represents the social service agencies of the Anglican, Baptist, Catholic, Methodist, and Presbyterian
churches and the Salvation Army, has released a paper outlining the Royal Commission on Social Policy’s findings about income maintenance and services for older people. Commenting on the paper, the council’s executive officer, Mr Alan Williams, said four factors highlighted the need for a bipartisan approach to superannuation policy:-the ageing population, superannuation costs, elderly welfare and community savings.
