FUTURES Stock contract busy
Solid interest in the second Government stock contract and, to a lesser extent, 90-day bankaccepted bills, marked another quiet day of futures trading yesterday. Second Government stock contracts closed near their high in a turnover of 1125 contracts. The closing price indicated a yield of 12.91 per cent. Ninety-day bank bill futures also generally closed firm, July contracts finishing on their index at a rate which suggests a yield of 15.47 per cent. Futures on the Barclays share index rose in the morning. Mr Geoff McDonnell, futures manager of Mair Astley, attributed this to a rise in the price of Brierley’s shares, to the approval for Fletcher Challenge’s newsprint expansion in Australia, and a rise in the Australian sharemarket. Wool futures were at a standstill, with no trades. In Australia, the June all-ordinaries share index
