PA i ; • Napier • A Wairoa man was shot death in front of his wife and family in* their Kopu Street, Wairoa, home early yesterday. He was Mate William Smith, aged 35. The shooting of Mr Smith has started a big murder hunt in the town, with detectives from Napier, Hastings and Gisborne converging on the region. At mid-morning yesterday, the police were still searching for a motive to the brutal killing. They were unable to comment on the type of weapon used. Constable Phil Rowe, of Wairoa, said Mr Smith was home with his family when three men, one of them armed, gained entry to their house.
