Four years jail for stabbing
PA Wellington A man who stabbed a youth, aged 15, puncturing a lung twice, was yesterday jailed for four years. Brent Hayley Phillips, aged 21, a labourer; appeared in the High Court at Wellington, having pleaded guilty to a charge of causing grievous bodily harm on April 24. A charge of attempted murder had previously been withdrawn. Mr Justice McGechan said that Phillips was involved in a fight in Wellington with several youths. It was broken up and he was taunted about having lost it.
He went with a friend to a nightclub and got another person. They armed themselves with wood and the like and went in search of the youths. . Phillips and another person attacked a 15-year-old who had been a spectator at the earlier fight. He was clubbed down and Phillips stabbed him three times, puncturing a lung twice.
