N.Z. wins Eurocup

Auckland

The New Zealand women’s roller hockey team has returned home triumphant as winner- of the world’s premier trophy for women, the Eurocup. The team of 10 left for Europe last month confident but unsure of its opponents’ strength. It did not take long to realise that it was one of the best. It won 11 of its 12 games on tour and scored 129 goals for and only nine against. It went through the Eurocup unbeaten in Hanover, West Germany, by beating Holland 6-0, West Germany 8-1, and Switzerland 12-0 in their season. In the semi-finals, it thrashed the Germans again, 131, and in the final the New Zealanders overcame the defending champion, Peterborough, a selected London club side, 8-1.
